Organising your visit to the show:

How to choose a network.

A piece of advice: being attracted to a product or business activity is critical. This should dictate your choice as a future franchisee. Before doing anything else, therefore, you should start gathering information about the business sectors – and brands – that might interest you. Also ask yourself the following essential questions:

Is this lifetime project compatible with my family situation?
What are my financial resources?
Do I have the skills to manage staff?
After selecting one or more business sectors, you can then focus on the brands you like.

As for ‘how many?’, it really depends on how much time you plan to spend at the show. In any event, whether you are interested in one or 10 brands, you still need to be organised. We strongly recommend that you plan your visit in advance. Visitors should prepare for the show and know precisely how many and which networks they plan to visit.

Stand meetings.

Some visitors go a step further in preparing their visit by setting up meetings in advance with brand managers.

It is a very good idea to contact franchisors before the show and arrange a meeting at their stand. This saves everyone time.

Obviously this also demonstrates your commitment as a future franchisee as well as your professionalism. It could well tip the balance in your favour. As with any recruitment interview, you need to be prepared. Draw up a list of questions you want to ask your future franchisor (e.g. how original is the concept and how would know-how be passed on).

We also recommend meeting franchisees attending the show who are already operating franchises (see “What Franchisees Have to Say” under the talks programme).

Getting the most out of the show.

Franchise Expo Paris features almost 450 brands.

But that’s not all.

Take advantage of your visit to meet other franchise specialists: consultants, bankers, lawyers, members of the French Franchise Federation (FFF) and other experts.

In 2011 Franchise Expo Paris will be featuring a new advice centre dedicated to setting up a business: the Business Start-up Village. Visitors will have the opportunity to consult experts on financing, legal issues, help for job seekers, accounting and retail space. This service will be open to all and free of charge.

The show will once again feature the ‘franchise school’, which this year will be offering future franchisees free training sessions every day along with a customised tour of the show.

Also essential are the finance workshops – information and advice from eight exhibiting banks – and the “future franchisee” workshops. Members of the FFF ‘College of Experts’ will be providing practical and technical information about creating a franchise network. And five separate workshops will be held during the show: financial aspects of franchises, becoming a franchisor (legal aspects plus the basics), brand protection, know-how protection, and accounts monitoring for franchisees.
