So what if it wasn't all about location, location, location? People often say that what make a franchise work the best is the location. And yet, some networks have developed concepts which do not need any premises and can still deliver high performances. Such is the case with the network Répar’Stores, specialising in the repair and maintenance of roller blinds. Accessible starting at €5,000 of liquid capital and requiring approximately €45,000 of overall investment, the franchisees of this network offer their services in their customers’ homes, and do not need offices or premises in which to receive them. In the same area of activity, Help Confort, specialising in home repairs, relies on a concept that doesn't necessarily need premises. Another example is Cuisine Venidom. With a touring truck store concept, the kitchen brand, contrary to its competitors, does not need premises. Here too, the franchisees go directly to people’s homes to present products and sign quotes. To join this network, liquid capital of €17,500 and total investment of €100,000 is necessary.

Home office
While some networks are exclusively on-the-go, others allow entrepreneurs to work mainly from home. Such is the case of the play activity brands Les Savants Fous and Briks for Kids. Both networks call on franchisees who can easily work without premises and at home when they are not out running activities. In this simple concept, both networks operate in their customers’ homes (for birthdays) or in schools, during after-school activities. Swim Stars is also a network which does not require a physical location. The brand, launched in 2017, harnesses an innovative concept based on swimming lessons delivered in private swimming pools when they are not in use, such as hotel pools. To join this network, liquid capital of €30,000 is necessary. Another field, another example: the franchise brand Ecolave, dedicated to eco-friendly car washing, also operates in the customer’s home. To join this network, initial capital of €4,000 is necessary, with overall investment of under €20,000.

Sales force and customer prospection
Not needing to open premises reduces the investment, but also lessens your visibility towards customers. A shop or an office clearly offer you a high-street presence and therefore the chance to capture passing trade. If you decide to opt for a brand that does not need a physical location, remember that you will have to be patient in launching and building your business. You’ll have to put extra effort into your sales force but also into your business development. Often, since these concepts only need one person, and therefore no employed staff, you will only be able to count on yourself to generate your turnover. A lot of human investment will therefore be necessary to build awareness - and financial investment too, to invest in Internet search engine optimisation (Google Ads, Facebook Ads, etc.) and in local advertising.
