What are the key steps to becoming a franchisee?

  • Do I have the right profile for the franchise? All profiles can start a franchise: whether you are currently an employee or a business manager, looking for a new professional opportunity, without activity, looking for a career change... You must first ask yourself about your professional objectives and skills, as well as the sectors of activity for which you have preferences.
  • Choosing a franchisor. Once you have defined your professional objectives and have pre-selected sectors of activity that may interest you, you can begin the search for the franchisor with whom you will launch. Some criteria that you can look at: brand awareness, the cost of entry, the support offered by the franchisor, and the conditions of the franchise contract.   • Analysis of the franchise agreement. After contacting the franchisor, you will need to review the Pre-contractual Information Document (PID): in France, the franchisor must provide you with a PID at least 20 days before signing the contract. This document contains essential information about the company, financial obligations, and the market. It is recommended to be accompanied by a specialized lawyer to analyze this contract, in order to understand the terms and obligations.
  • Finding funding. First of all, you need to determine the total cost which includes: entry fees, royalties, training costs, initial investments (premises, equipment, inventory, etc.).
  • Training. Most franchises offer initial training that covers operational aspects, marketing, management, and brand products/services. Some franchises also offer training throughout the contract to keep up with market and product developments.
  • Choosing a location. If the franchise requires a physical point of sale, find a location that meets the franchisor's criteria and has good customer potential.
